ON_OFF Exchange of methodologies in the education of detainees

Exchange of educational experiences in penitentiaries. Study and further debate on the different teaching/learning systems in penitentiaries in Europe. Analysis of the different strong and weak points observed in the teaching/learning processes in prisons from every country participating in this project.

Languages:
English
Tools to be used:
E-mail, Other software (Powerpoint, video, pictures and drawings), Project Diary, Login to the platform (eTwinning "TwinSpaces").
Aims:
Promoting and supporting, on the European scale, training of instructors involved in prison education; promoting cooperation with other similar institutions/organizations; promoting research in the field of prison education in the European context.
Work process:
There will be six face-to-face meetings, three of which are mandatory (September 2013, May 2014, May 2015), and three optional ( the intention is all the partners can attend all meetings.) Every task, contribution, opinion on strong/weak points... proposed by each partner will be downloaded by webmaster to this web site, as well as every subject that may arise during the meetings.
Expected results:
We expect to find techniques and strategies likely to improve the inmates' teaching/learning procecess. Also, we aim to find new ways to improve coordination and implication among all the administrations, staff, organizations, etc. involved in prison education, to make it more effective.

Differently from teaching in ordinary schools, education in prison implies variables, -related to the context, the prison organization,  the detainees, the rules, and also other influences that may affect the didactic activities-, that makes it (education in prison) extremely complex.

For these reasons we believe that is very important to collaborate with other European colleagues who work in such  an environment on a daily basis .

Sharing our own experiences, discussing teaching methodologies, comparing  effective practices as well as occurred criticism will allow us to find new ways  and tools to improve our teaching methods in prison  and will help us to develop our professional skills and ensure greater self esteem in the way we teach.
